Is Your Business Ready For 5G To Change Everything?

图片
Looking at the next generation of high-speed internet, my mind is blown. 5G is poised to redefine the future of how we interact, how we build technology and even the way we imagine what’s possible. If you think the pace of innovation is moving fast now, wait until 5G is ingrained in our everyday lives. 5G is the most transformative technology since the internet. 5G is the 5th generation of radio frequencies that can transmit data. The 5G signal transmits information at such a high frequency that it allows us to connect better than any other generation before it. To anyone who is not familiar with the technology, this means faster phone data without even connecting to Wi-Fi and download speeds of just seconds. It will be some time before the service will be available to the public at large, but will launch in select U.S. cities later this year. My 5G story began in 2017 when my company partnered with Verizon. The goal was to make underutilized spaces in Verizon’s real estate por...

Measuring The Slow Speed Of iPhone 5G Evolution

图片
A number of iPhone owners who aren’t following the story of AT&T’s courageous rebranding of its data services will no doubt be happy to see their iOS powered handset connecting to 5G. But this is not the 5G revolution that others are talking about. In fact 5G E appears to be slower than the 4G LTE service provided by other US networks. Remember that 5G E is , strictly speaking, not a 5G network as the geekerati would understand, but a renamed 4G LTE network. Research into 5G E has been published by OpenSignal which has compared speed tests performed by users between January 28th and February 25th. With data from over a million devices, OpenSignal found AT&T’s 5G 3 averaged 28.8 Mbps, broadly similar to 4G LTE from T-Mobile (29.4 Mbps) and Verizon (29.9 Mbps): Some AT&T users in the U.S. have recently seen “5G E” appear on the status bar of their existing smartphones, replacing 4G. This move has sparked controversy because AT&T is using updated 4G network tec...

Protecting IoT: It's Up To You

图片
The Internet of Things is everywhere, and it continues to grow as manufacturers add computing capacity to more and more of their products. All of these Internet-connected devices present a security risk, and it’s a lot bigger than an intruder adjusting a homeowner’s Nest thermostat a couple of degrees. We can all help reduce the security risk associated with IoT by adopting the concept of herd immunity. Everything Dumb is Smart At the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), LG announced that it planned to add “advanced WiFi connectivity” to all of its home appliances. It doesn’t matter if you think you need an Internet-connected toaster — if a device can be connected to the Internet, then it is. Computing capacity is so cheap, we can add it to any piece of hardware. This has phenomenal use when we start thinking about computing’s role in our daily lives (a toaster notwithstanding), in manufacturing, and in industrial control systems. Suddenly we can monitor and control anythin...

Smart IoT Investments In Little Things Lead To Big Payoffs

图片
The idea of automating homes and businesses to make them smarter isn’t new. For decades, pundits and vendors have touted everything from automated light switches to connected thermostats and smart refrigerators. At this year’s CES, a wide range of smart objects made their debut, including a smart dispenser that gives treats to dogs when no one’s around, smart toilets, a kitchen touchscreen that responds to voice commands via Google Assistant, and a self-cleaning litter box. As innovative as these home-friendly products are, they don’t provide the value and impact delivered by smart objects for business. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and the internet of things (IoT) have redefined the business landscape, and the IoT evolution has pushed the smart business model to a tipping point. Connected devices and services are no longer just ideas that will have value someday. They’re here now, and they encompass ecosystems of sensors, devices and ot...

What is Industry 4.0?

图片
We’re in the midst of a significant transformation regarding the way we produce products thanks to the digitization of manufacturing. This transition is so compelling that it is being called Industry 4.0 to represent the fourth revolution that has occurred in manufacturing. From the first industrial revolution (mechanization through water and steam power) to the mass production and assembly lines using electricity in the second, the fourth industrial revolution will take what was started in the third with the adoption of computers and automation and enhance it with smart and autonomous systems fueled by data and machine learning. Even though some dismiss Industry 4.0 as merely a marketing buzzword, shifts are happening in manufacturing that deserves our attention. Industry 4.0 optimizes the computerization of Industry 3.0 When computers were introduced in Industry 3.0, it was disruptive thanks to the addition of an entirely new technology. Now, and into the future as Industry ...

What if GPRS modem is unstable?

图片
1. GPRS modem  is in a bad environment. For example, in a hot data transmission project, modems are often placed in the basement along with other devices, at this moment, the signal will be greatly affected. Without GRPS signals, DPRS modem does not work. Therefore, it needs to solve. The solution: extend the antenna to a place that has a good signal (disadvantage: extending the antenna will attenuate the signal, extending 10 meters). Or, if possible, put the device chassis and modem together in a place that has a good signal (extend the serial data cable). 2. In remote areas such as mountainous areas, the signal is often weak. In such cases, a high gain antenna can be selected to enhance signal reception. Another premise of the idea is that when data transmission is not very frequent, you can consider using SMS to transmit data. (Short messages can also be sent when the signal is not good. There may be some lag. Special note: When you have an emergency, you can try to send a s...

What is 5G? Why 2019 is the year that mobile will change forever

5G has been a long time coming, but this year, we should finally get to see the first true 5G services launch. The first batch of 5G phones are also going on sale very soon. What does this mean? Apart from faster — much faster — internet access on your phones, it promises to allow for things like smart home appliances and smart cars to better connect to the internet, allowing for much tighter control over connected appliances, improved road safety, traffic reporting. The technology promises high-speed, low-latency connections, meaning 5G could potentially augment if not wholly replace traditional fixed-line broadband services. What is 5G? 5G is the fifth generation of mobile connectivity, following on from 4G. Those of us already using 4G on phones and tablets will know that it’s much faster and more reliable than older 3G tech. However, 4G is certainly not perfect. In densely populated areas, streaming video from the likes of YouTube can sometimes be a slow experience...

The Functions of the Serial Device Server

图片
The functions of the  serial device server A serial port device server, also known as a serial device server or port redirector, is a device that transfers data between a computer's serial port (COM port) and an Ethernet local area network (LAN). This makes it possible to replace the serial cable with Ethernet, reduce the chaos of the workstation and allow serial devices to be placed away from the computer where they are used. The serial device server can be used with all types of serial devices and peripherals, such as  printers, scanners, data collection terminals, display devices, modems, automation equipment, security/alarm systems, and climate control systems. Most serial port device servers provide the function that connects multiple serial devices to a single serial port. The serial device server can be used for wired or wireless Ethernet LANs. Some serial device servers can also run across Internet Protocol (IP) wide area networks (WA...
